Poodles

The Poodle or Poddle is a breed of dog that was once considered only appropriate for the nobility. In many cases it was used to recover the pieces that fell into the water in the hunt.

Later its use became popular and today it is one of the dogs that we can find more frequently in homes, since they have a very simple coexistence with humans.

It is also common for them to participate in different exhibitions and beauty contests because they have a very appreciative aesthetic. There are four different types of poodles, the large, the medium, the dwarf and the toy.

The aesthetics of poodles by size

As we said, in poodles we can find four different types, which differ basically by their size. To calculate its height, it is measured from the ground to the shoulder blades (the withers). These are the measurements of the four varieties:

Large (or giant) poodle

This is believed to  be the original breed. The others arose when trying to create smaller animals. Their measurements range from 45 to 62 centimeters and to be allowed to compete they have to keep proper proportions.

As a curiosity, when they participate in official competitions, those with black, white and brown fur are grouped on the one hand and on the other those of gray, apricot and red color. From each of the groups there is a finalist and the winner is decided among them.

Medium poodle

Its size is between 35 and 45 centimeters and when competing, only those without spots are counted, as in the other categories. Its colors are white, black, gray, brown, apricot and red.

Toy poodle

It is also called a miniature. Their height cannot exceed 35 centimeters or be below 28. But in addition, in order for them to be suitable when competing, they cannot present any trait of dwarfism.

In fact, they should be similar to medium-sized ones, but smaller. When competing they are grouped in different colors.

Toy poodle

It must have a height below 28 centimeters. As with those we saw in the previous point, they cannot present any characteristic that shows that they suffer from dwarfism.

Dogs of all colors are presented together at competitions.

It must be clarified that, as with human beings, the measurements of the poodles may not correspond to these parameters, but they are the ones used when competing.

In fact, for a long time it was decided to prioritize that the poodles were as small as possible, but then they realized that the breed was being harmed.

In this way, it is sought that there are no dogs so extremely small that they are weaker and live fewer years. The normal thing is that a dog of this breed reaches between 12 and 15 years of life.

The hair of the poodles

One of the qualities of this animal that gives more play when it comes to varying its aesthetics is, without a doubt, its hair. We are not referring only to the great variety of colors they present, but above all to the fact that it is of very good quality, which allows you to change your image. Another advantage is that they do not usually shed their hair.

All this gives the possibility to their owners to change their look with different hairstyles and cuts. In addition,  as it grows a lot, it is easier to correct possible mistakes that we have made when trying some hairstyles.

Of course, for you to enjoy the beauty of your pet it is very important that you brush its fur regularly and keep it clean. Keep in mind that the lighter your dog’s hair is, the more necessary it will be to take care of its hygiene.
