Cats are one of those animals that are not accountable to anyone, who want to do whatever they want at all times: you could say that they don’t ‘marry anyone’. They are curious animals by nature, they like to investigate, discover other things that they do not know and they know that by going outside the home they will be able to feed that desire.
Another reason why a cat leaves home is due to the mating season. If this has arrived and the cat has access to the street easily, do not think that it will be locked up far from it. Before you know it, she’s gone looking for a partner.
This problem will arise especially if your pet is a cat instead of a cat, although the latter know very well when the cats in their environment are waiting for them and will not take long to go looking for them either.

Felines, despite being independent, like to go in packs, as this is how they like to live and hunt. This instinct, which comes from wild cats, is possibly another reason why cats go out and come home: to socialize with other cats. It is a need that they need to meet.
And although there are not many, it is possible that a cat has even more marked the independent character that characterizes them and wants to live freely, without depending on anyone and without having to obey anyone. In these cases, they may leave and return as long as they cannot find a place to eat; once they do, they will disappear forever.
Why do cats go out and come back
Since we know the reasons why cats leave the house, so we must know what are the ones that drive them to return. The answer may surprise you. It has always been said that the main reason a cat that has left and returns home is to have food. Well, studies have shown that this is not entirely true.
An analysis from the University of Oregon chose 50 cats that lived in a domestic environment. They were isolated without toys, food or water, without social interaction, neither with people nor with other felines, for a few hours. When they decided them out of isolated areas, one 63% preferred interaction with humans, compared to 37% who preferred the food.
This shows that not only dogs are man’s best friends, but cats can also create a very strong bond with their owners and always seek their affection and love, not only when they want. This could mark a before and after in the idea that we have that cats are interested.
Proof of this is a kitten who made headlines a few months ago, Holly. He got lost on a vacation about 300 kilometers from his home, but didn’t give up until 62 days later. Although he vanished a few meters before reaching the door, once he woke up he did not want water or food, but to rub himself with his owners. What else can we say?
So, despite the myths of independence and interest that surround cats, we already see that their love for us goes far beyond what we believed, and it is one of the strongest reasons why our felines return home.
